Ruth (Kistner) Ackerly, 84 years old of Oakland, NJ, born October 7, 1931 in Richfield Park, NJ. She went to her eternal rest on September 2, 2016, at Valley Hospital, surround by her family. Predeceased by her parents, Fred and Madeline Kistner. Loving wife of Edward Ackerly, Sr., married for 60 years. Dear mother of Edward Jr. (Cheryl) of Warwick, NY, John (Kathy) of Hewitt, NJ, predeceased by her son, Guy Richard and grandson, Guy Christopher. Grandmother of Steven, Graham, Craig and Erin. Great Grandmother of Kylie, Steven, Randall and Khloe. She was employed by Bendix Aviation in Teterboro, NJ. Before she retired, she was employed by the Oakland School System for over 20 years. She was a member of the Oakland First Aid Squad, and enjoyed many trips with the Oakland Seniors. She passionately dedicated her time knitting over 2,000 hats for preemie babies at a local hospital. She enjoyed family vacations, bingo and was a soap opera fan. She was a responsible, humble person. She devoted her time to her Grandchildren and loved nature and animals. She enjoyed a good laugh and sharing stories, but most of all, she loved being with her family. She will be dearly missed, but has left behind many great memories. Funeral Liturgy will be on Thursday at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Oakland, NJ. Followed by an Entombment at Laurel Grove Cemetery Totowa NJ. Friends and family can visit the Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo Valley Road Oakland, NJ on Wednesday from 3-7 PM. Please no flowers.
