Obituary

Roger Marchese of Oakland, NJ passed away at the age of 93 on Aug. 12, 2018. Born in Paterson, the family moved to Wyckoff in 1937, and then to Oakland in 1958. He is survived by his wife Ruth (nee FitzMaurice) of 69 years, his son Kim (Linda) of Oakland, his daughter Susan Green (Terry) of Wyoming, grandson Kevin (Maya) of MA, and granddaughter Michele Preuss (Jonathan) of Idaho. He was predeceased by his brothers James and Eugene. Roger served in the US Navy as a radio/gunner on a TBF plane, the Dauntless and Avenger. He graduated with his wife from Montclair Teachers College. He taught in the Pequonnack, Ridgewood, Cresskill, and Mahwah school systems. He served as a teacher, a principal (in Cresskill), and chairman of the Mahwah teachers' negotiation committee. He retired in 1982 and then continued to work for Fairleigh Dickenson University as a student teacher supervisor for 18 years. He was an avid tennis player, golfer, magician, card player, and traveler. He served on the Board of Directors of the East Bergen Teachers Federal Credit Union, the Oakland Recreation Commission, and the Oakland Team Tennis committee. Visitation will be at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, Saturday, August 18th from 4-8. A celebration of his life will be held at the Oakland Memorial Home, Sunday, August 19th at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger's memory may be made to The Pagets Foundation.
