Obituary

Joseph Gaul, 88 of Oakland died peacefully with family by his side after a brief illness on Monday, September 3, 2018. Joe was born in Wyckoff and moved to Oakland in 1958 and was founding and active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Joe lived a vibrant life including proudly serving in the US Marines and a rewarding career at Grand Union for over 40 years. Joe's greatest pride and joy was his family especially the 65 years of blissful marriage to his best friend and soulmate Catherine. Joe leaves behind his beloved daughter Kathleen of Oakland, his loving sister and first friend, Martha her husband Al of Wyckoff along with nieces, nephews and extended family who will miss his endearing smile and gentle and loving ways. Joe was sadly predeceased by his joyful and ever-smiling son, Joey and would ask in lieu of flowers that donation be made to the Special Olympics on both their behalf. Friends and relatives are invited to visit on Thursday 2-6 PM at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ. A funeral liturgy will be held Friday, 10 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 117 Franklin Ave, Oakland, NJ. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes, NJ.
