James W. O'Brien of Ringwood, NJ, formerly of Wyckoff, NJ, passed away Friday August 12th, 2016 at the age of 71. James is survived by his wife of 46 years, Eleanor, his three children: Jill Fenton of Bloomingdale, Carrie Ward of Marietta GA, and Kevin O'Brien of Morristown. James was the proud grandfather of 4 grandchildren Ryan, Heather, Ashleigh, and Erin. James was a graduate of Rutherford High School & Fairleigh Dickinson University, and also served 16 years in the NJ National Guard's Military Police. James enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry for over forty years, before retiring in 2013. James' passion was people, as he most enjoyed spending his free time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. James will be fondly remembered for his smile, sense of humor, strong work ethic, and his devotion to the people he loved. A service will be held at the Oakland Memorial Home (330 Ramapo Valley Rd, Oakland) this Thursday, August 18th, 2016. There will be a viewing from 10am - 12:30pm w/ a repass luncheon to follow at Portobello, (175 Ramapo Valley Rd, Oakland, NJ 07436).
