James L Murrell Sr.

James L. Murrell, Sr. died peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, after a long illness. He was 77. Born in Manhattan, NY, his family moved to Bergenfield, NJ where he would spend most of his life. A graduate of Bergenfield High School, he married soon after and he and his loving wife raised their family in Bergenfield. James was a proud businessman, owning and operating, Zipper Equipment Corporation. He was a master color matcher and ran his business in Manhattan, NY for 18 years. His second career was working for Hackensack DPW alongside his beloved son James. The two worked together for 20 years. He is reunited with the love of his life, a loving and devoted wife, Patricia (Egan) Murrell. They were blessed with 46 years together. He was an amazing father to his son James Murrell, Jr and daughter Shana Murrell. He leaves James, his wife Denise and their children, his cherished granddaughters, Gemma and Giana Murrell of Oakland, NJ, as well as his daughter Shana Murrell of Haverhill, MA. He is predeceased by his loving mother, Christine Murrell, brother George and his wife, Eleanor. James will be remembered for his love of fishing and his appreciation of a pint of Guinness. He was proud of his Irish heritage. James treasured time with his children, exploring Rhode Island with Shana or attending a concert with James were favorite occasions. He especially enjoyed watching his granddaughters' soccer games and school concerts. Services will be private. He will be laid to rest, with his beloved wife at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
