ALICE "JOANNE" JUNG

OAKLAND, NJ - Joanne, 92, died peacefully on August 19, 2025. She was born on June 20, 1933, in Cleveland Ohio, the oldest daughter of Charles E. and Alice (Shaw)Vyse.

Joanne graduated from East Cleveland High School.   As a young adult in Ohio, Joanne was an active Rainbow Girl. She served as a grand worthy advisor where she met her future husband, Richard Jung, on a blind date. Joanne had begun studying nursing before she married Richard on August 13, 1955. Shortly after, they moved to Houston,Texas as Richard was transferred within General Electric. Joanne continued nursing school and they had their first two daughters, Cheryl and Laura. Then, when Richard was again transferred, Joanne and Richard moved to Hendersonville, NC. There, they had her third daughter, Wendy. Richard was transferred one final time to GE's NYC division. They settled down in Oakland, NJ to raise their three daughters. Joanne was active as a leader and as neighborhood chairman in Girl Scouts, a first aid instructor, hospice volunteer, and a member of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary. Joanne completed her college education and received a B.S. in Business at Ramapo College in June of '82. She and Richard loved playing bridge, forming friendships that lasted throughout their lives. They enjoyed summers camping in their pop up trailer and seeing the country as a family. After retirement, she and Richard moved to Texas. The next twenty years were spent splitting their time between their home in Austin, and traveling around the country in their motor home visiting National Parks and family. Joanne and Richard were both very active in the Auxiliary at St. David's Hospital.  After Richard was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, they followed their eldest daughter and her husband out of Texas and moved in with them in Dunlap, TN, where she resided for seven years. Joanne and Richard continued to stay active and they enjoyed playing bridge with their friends. Several years later, after Richard  passed, Joanne moved back to Oakland, NJ to live with her middle daughter. She joined the Seniors group and was an active member. She enjoyed getting together with her old friends to play bridge.  After COVID, Joanne moved to Goshen, NY to live with her youngest daughter, her two grandsons, and future granddaughter-in-law. While she lived there Joanne enjoyed being part of an active family and seeing her great grandchildren regularly. She was blessed to celebrate her 92nd birthday in June and was surrounded by all of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in law: Jack Elwood, her husband: Richard Jung, her son-in-law: Ed Vandercliff, and her sister: Janet Fish.
